Troubleshooting
When something goes wrong, read the launcher’s message first. Most of them already say what to do. Below are the common cases, grouped by where the problem happens.
Find the logs
Section titled “Find the logs”When a launch fails, the launcher’s status bar shows View logs ›. You can also click Logs at any time to open the Launch Log. Copy all copies the whole log so you can paste it to someone.
The other logs are here:
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Game log | %APPDATA%\.soarclient-abc\logs\, the newest one is latest.log |
| Crash reports | %APPDATA%\.soarclient-abc\game\crash-reports\, only there after a crash |
| Launcher update record | %LOCALAPPDATA%\SoarLauncherData\update-apply.log |
If you moved the game in the launcher’s Settings → Game folder, the game log and crash reports are under the new location.
Launcher
Section titled “Launcher”The launcher asks to update
Section titled “The launcher asks to update”A required update has to be installed before you can start the game. Click Update now and the launcher downloads it, verifies it and restarts.
If the update fails, click Retry. If it still fails, download the latest installer from the website’s download section and install again. The reason it failed is written to update-apply.log above, so include it when you report the problem.
The download is slow or stuck
Section titled “The download is slow or stuck”The first launch downloads the full game files, so it takes the longest. Downloads resume where they stopped: if the connection drops or you close the launcher, it carries on next time. If your connection is unstable, try another network or try again later.
Launch fails with a missing file or missing Java
Section titled “Launch fails with a missing file or missing Java”For example ”… is missing”, “No usable jar files in the libraries folder” or “The bundled Java runtime is missing”. The game files are incomplete: security software may have quarantined some, or the game folder was edited by hand.
Just click Retry launch. The launcher checks every game file each time it starts the game and downloads any that are missing or damaged again. If files keep disappearing, check whether your security software is quarantining files in the game folder.
Not enough space on drive C
Section titled “Not enough space on drive C”You can move the game files to another drive. Close the game, open the launcher’s Settings → Game folder, click Change, pick an empty folder, then choose Move existing files (recommended). Your worlds and settings move with it. Keep the launcher open until it finishes.
Microsoft sign-in
Section titled “Microsoft sign-in”| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is missing | Install the WebView2 Runtime from Microsoft, then sign in again |
| This Microsoft account does not own Minecraft: Java Edition | This account has not bought Java Edition. Use the account that owns the game |
| This Microsoft account has no Xbox profile yet | Sign in once at xbox.com with this account to create one |
| This account must be added to a Microsoft family and approved by a parent | An underage account needs a parent’s approval in Microsoft Family first |
| Xbox services are not available in this account’s region | Xbox services do not work in the account’s region, so use another account |
| Your credentials have expired | Click the re-login button next to the account |
| The signed-in account does not match … | When you sign in again, choose the Microsoft account that belongs to this game account |
| Sign-in timed out, the window closed unexpectedly, or check your network | Check your connection and sign in again. The sign-in window has to be finished within two minutes |
| The Microsoft sign-in component is missing | Reinstall the launcher |
In game
Section titled “In game”Crashes
Section titled “Crashes”Open the newest file in crash-reports, or the last few dozen lines of the launch log, and include it when you report the problem. Common causes:
- Not enough memory: raise the memory in the launcher’s Settings → Game memory (1–8 GB). This only helps if your PC has the memory to spare.
- A resource pack or shader you just added: turn it off in game and see whether it still crashes.
Stutter or low frame rate
Section titled “Stutter or low frame rate”Turn on modules such as FPS boost and Entity Culling, see Modules and HUD. Giving the game a bit more memory in the launcher can also help.
Settings got messed up
Section titled “Settings got messed up”- One module: open the module’s settings and click Reset at the top right.
- A whole profile: click Reset on that profile on the Profiles page, or create a new profile and start over.
Other players cannot see my cape
Section titled “Other players cannot see my cape”See the FAQ. If the online service will not connect, see connection status.
The Linux launcher is still a preview. You can sign in and manage accounts, but it cannot start the game yet and shows “Linux game support coming later”.
Report a problem
Section titled “Report a problem”Find us on Discord. These make it much faster:
- What you did before the problem, and whether it happens every time;
- The launch log (Logs → Copy all);
- For a crash, the newest crash report in
crash-reports; - For a failed launcher update,
update-apply.log; - The launcher version, shown on the launcher’s About page.
